What Is Dahua Smart Motion Detection (SMD)?
SMD (Smart Motion Detection) is an AI-based function from Dahua that automatically detects motion and distinguishes between people, vehicles, and animals.
To improve the filtering of irrelevant objects and make alarms more precise in security-critical scenarios, Dahua introduced SMD Plus as the first iteration of Smart Motion Detection. Developed on the basis of AI and deep learning algorithms, the technology was designed primarily to enhance the detection of people and vehicles. SMD 4.0 now represents the latest generation of this intelligent function.
Currently, SMD reliably filters out sources of interference such as changing lighting conditions, animals, leaves, moving trees, or weather-related changes and classifies them as false alarms. This ensures that relevant alarm events are triggered specifically by human and vehicle targets. The function has been continuously refined and now also evaluates additional attributes such as object color to further improve accuracy, while delivering more reliable detection over longer distances.
What Practical Benefits Does Dahua Smart Motion Detection (SMD) Offer?
Dahua’s SMD function reduces false alarms to less than 1% and triggers alarms only when a person or vehicle is detected. With Quick Target Search, person and vehicle data can be extracted and classified from video footage, allowing users to play back recordings, analyze them, and trace the data history. This means that responses are focused on security-critical situations, which helps optimize surveillance processes and noticeably reduce staff workload.
