ANPR
What Is Dahua ANPR?
ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) is an AI-based Dahua feature for the automatic detection and analysis of vehicle licence plates in video footage. Based on deep learning, licence plates are located, captured, and extracted as alphanumeric data for use in search, comparison, and control processes. Depending on the system, additional vehicle attributes such as vehicle type, colour, and direction of travel can also be identified and processed as metadata, for example in intelligent traffic management or access control applications.
The Dahua ANPR function supports multilingual licence plate recognition and achieves a detection rate of up to 99% and a recognition rate of up to 95%. The full recognition process is typically completed within around 100 milliseconds, making it suitable for applications that require fast response times.
What Practical Benefits Does Dahua ANPR Offer?
In practice, ANPR supports a wide range of deployment scenarios, from traffic monitoring and access control to parking management. The function can be used for the automatic detection of speeding and red-light violations, licence plate verification as part of official inspection processes, the identification of blocked or suspicious vehicles, as well as toll collection, parking guidance, and barrier control. This enables greater automation of traffic and access processes, shorter response times, and more efficient control procedures.
Another practical advantage lies in edge-based processing, as ANPR can run directly on the device, making it a more cost-efficient alternative to traditional server-based analytics solutions. This gives companies an attractive price-performance ratio while maintaining a high level of functionality, particularly in projects with multiple access points, parking areas, or distributed capture points.
